Poco Quatros Featured Member of the Month:
Joe Maese
Joe Maese has been a member of the Poco Quatros Model A Club since 2004. He has lived in Albuquerque since 1964. He is from Las Vegas, New Mexico where he grew up, then later moved to Kansas and met the love of his life, Loretta. They married and moved to California before settling in Albuquerque.
Joe and Loretta had four children, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Loretta passed away in December, 2006. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August, 2007. The most recent addition to the family is a toy poodle named Lorie. She has been a great companion of Joe’s since January, 2007.
Joe has been a member of the Rio Grande Wood Carvers for over ten years. Since he retired from his job in heating and air conditioning in the early 1990’s, he has been busy carving everything from Santos to comedy characters. Each year he participates in the teaching and showing of the club’s woodcarvings at the State Fair.
His recent admiration for Model A’s came as a surprise four years ago when his daughter, Connie, gave him a 1929 Coupe for Father’s Day. The car was originally from Durango, Colorado where Joe’s daughter purchased it from the son of the original owner. He was preparing to transport the car to Phoenix, Arizona to be sold at an auction when it was discovered and purchased. The Coupe, having sat in a garage for many years, was a fixer upper and is still a work in progress. You’ll easily recognize Joe in his 1929 Coupe by his very good pal in the rumble seat. She is a 150 years old alien from Mars. Her name is Alfa Chee.
